Update to the GMITC Demo Site Print E-mail

Transitioning to the new Joomla 1.5 system hasn't been easy but I've made modest steps towards it, and now the GMITC Demo site is up and running.  The new site is running Joomla 1.5 Release Candidate 3 without legacy mode.  For those of you new to Joomla or to Joomla 1.5, Legacy Mode allows one to run extensions designed for Joomla 1.0 within 1.5, usually without too many problems.  All applications on the demo site are 1.5 native.

The primary purpose of the demo site is to demonstrate GMITC's flagship application, Logos Query Manager, or LQM.  Logos is a form and report generator similar to Database Query, an application that I started writing  in 2003 for Mambo.

This site is also running the new Joomla to Simple Machines Forum ( J2SMF ) Bridge component that allows either loose or tight integration between Joomla and the Simple Machines Forum.  At the moment tight integration is still under development and there is no need to register users with Joomla, so SMF is only loosely integrated.

The new template is also Joomla 1.5 native.  The header graphic has been updated as has been the style sheets.  The overall structure is similar to the current template and this is fine for a programmer like me – Keep It Simple Stupid.

Eventually the demo site will become the main GMITC website after content has been completely updated, and I've had the chance to work with it for a while, searching for bugs.  Of course one of my interests is to find bugs in the core Joomla system so that they can be fixed before the next Joomla 1.5 release candidate.  My goal is to move aside GMITC's 1.0 site sometime after the release of J! 1.5 sometime, I hope, in November.
